Years Away

2011. Fabric (tulle), slide projector, slide. Diameter 380 cm.

Team: Sandra Aracic

Radially spreading rays of light float in the air in the otherwise dark room, resembling a colossal, though distant exploding star. As the eyes adjust to darkness, the contours of the room become slightly visible.

A large three-dimensional polyhedron made of white tulle (transparent fabric) is suspended from the ceiling. A slide projector is installed far behind the object and projects thin lines of light onto the fabric. Due to the transparency of the fabric, light is rendered at all the planes, creating a three-dimensional “light star.”

1. Shape of the light that is projected from the slide onto the tulle structure (the drawing on the slide is radial equal distribution of lines in the circle)
2. Tulle cuboctahedron (formed by intersections of hexagonal planes)
